Revitalization and reconciliation
Since the 1970s, Sami culture and language have experienced a revitalization, also in Sea Sami areas. Young people are curious about their roots and find new pride in previously concealed chapters of their family history. Through the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2018-23), a history of injustice has been thoroughly documented. The commission’s report also offers a foundation on which to develop our common future, based on respect for cultural diversity.
