– the only preserved water-powered frame saw in Northern Norway.
Frame saw technology was very important for the development of Northern Norway in the 19th century. Employing energy from the water wheel instead of the sawyer’s muscles the production of building materials became more efficient and more economic. Timber that used to give materials for one boat could now be sufficient for three.
Today, the sawmill is a great place to visit, not only because of the interesting sawing history that begun in 1796, but also for the beautiful surroundings. The saw is currently undergoing restoration, but will hopefully run again during the summer season of 2024.
